Ryan Tohara

I figured I'd post these before my Dad has a melt down.  My little brother is going to be in Tokyo Japan for the next two years.  My sister is currently in Kobe and will return back to us the same day my brother arrives in Japan.  When he was 11 I told him he hugs like Ken Barbie.  You know...Stiff arms that grip you like a crate lift, squeeze you a little and then let go.  It perfect he's going to Japan cause I'm sure he'll bow perfectly robotic!  Miss you Ry boy.

Tuki + Feni

LOVE looks good on ANYONE.  In fact....it's the ONLY thing that looks good on EVERYONE.  It's not like skinny jeans, and red lipstick.  It casts its generous light with out discrimination. A smile and a good case of love is a beauty solution that we all can go for.  If you want to see a truly beautiful person, just find someone in the care of one who madly. deeply. adores them.  I look forward to photographing love in any season. Thank you Tuki and Feni for being so fun.  If you're ever unnerved about being photographed.......well you should be.  I can SEE YOUR SOUL!  Do it anyway.

Have a great weekend.  I'm off to escape and get beautiful with my man for a few days.

The Light of the Sunrise.

I've been stuck.  I wasn't sure if I was going to blog these images.  As I debated about sharing my experience, I got backed up.  I'm not the most organized person.  At best, with a ton of effort I can work a system.  Once I get a kink in my flow, it takes me a bit to get going again.  Wanting to share my experience with the Ruiz family and feeling inadequate to do so was enough to block my posting for weeks.
I've known Alex and Ricardo for years.  I remember eating lunch with Alex in middle school, and going to the Boyz to Men concert with Ricardo and friends......when Boyz to Men were HUGE.  Not that I knew them the best... but I knew them well enough to be humbled by the people that I've seen them become today, stronger and braver than I ever hope I have to be.  They have a beautiful family that was blessed to know an Angel.... their son Joaquin.   I listened as Ricardo accounted the stories of their lives together and I recalled shooting their family pictures two years ago.   I was so impressed at the calm way both Ricardo and Alex faced the many small and big challenges that made their family special.   I'm so glad I was able to capture one day of their love and their connections.   One day that will last until they can see Joaquin's beautiful face again.   Their words, live and tears changed my heart forever.
The spirits of those
who leave this life
are the light of the sunrise
.....and shine down on all of us
who wait to see them again.
